“My project ‘prevail’ has been something I have worked on for over a year now. I have used a combination of fashion and documentary to create this series. This project explores my personal experience of foster care and being estranged. The series is exploring a group of people who have been through the same experience as well. This work explores their childhood trauma which comes from these experiences, which is shown through utalising escapism and fantasy metaphors. This is because using fantasy as an escape tactic is common for childhood trauma. This work is also made to celebrate and empower these incredible people, instead of degrading them, as this subject is often viewed so negatively, while also aiming to educate the viewers.
This work has been exhibited in Arnolfini Bristol Exhibition and London Freerange Exhibition and be produced in a photobook.
This piece of work has been incredibly rewarding personally and creatively, I have really connected with my subjects and the audience so far. I want to create work that shows my creativity and my personal aesthetic while discussing important topics.”
